'All-time high' of 8,800 short-term missing person reports filed last year, Winnipeg police say
More people were reported missing in Winnipeg last year than ever before, police say.
In a quarterly report released by the city Friday, police said an "all-time high" of 8,894 people were reported missing in Winnipeg in 2015 — a jump of 29 per cent from 2014.
The figures will be tabled at a Winnipeg police board meeting as part of the Indigenous Women – Safety and Protection report.

A small minority of people accounted for a significant number of the missing person cases in the fourth quarter.
Twenty-four people with 15 or more missing person reports each made up 20 per cent of all cases — a whopping one-fifth of all missing person reports last year, police said.
Group homes and Child and Family Services facilities also ranked high on the list. Sixty-nine per cent of cases involved people living in group homes, and the top 37 addresses associated with missing individuals belonged to CFS, police said.
