More details are emerging about the man shot and killed in a Main Street restaurant Friday morning.

Winnipeg police have identified him as 24-year-old William Edward Moar.

Moar was shot in Johnny G’s on Main Street just before 2 a.m.

The police investigation then led to a stand-off in the 500 block of Sherbrook Street hours later.

Several people were taken into custody and later released.

Tributes to Moar have since been posted on social media sites like Facebook and YouTube.

Police said Moar was well-known to them.

In 2009, Moar was charged with aggravated assault along with four others following a vicious beating of 19-year-old man in a West Broadway parking lot.

Kawara Ojwato was attacked by four men as he got out of his car.

Ojwato suffered multiple wounds — including a severe brain injury — and spent more than a year in hospital.

He will never walk, talk or feed himself again and will require round-the-clock care for the rest of his life.

Ojwato, a Sudanese immigrant, was attacked because members of a street gang in the area mistook him for a member of the African Mafia street gang.

At the time, Moar was connected to the B-Side street gang.

"Mr. Moar was known to police, but whether any of his past dealings had anything to do with this, I am unaware," said Const. Eric Hofley.

Police won’t say if Friday’s shooting was gang-related.

Winnipeg police haven’t laid any charges in the case and are hoping anyone with information will come forward.
