Winnipeg police have taken a number of people into custody after being called about a gun in the city's North End on Wednesday.

Officers were called just after midnight to a home on Cathedral Avenue, near Parr Street.

They later blocked Cathedral from Arlington Street to McKenzie Street, preventing pedestrians and vehicles from going down the street, and brought out their armoured response vehicle.

"We received some information with respect to concerns regarding an individual or individuals at that location, the potential of it being a volatile situation, presence of weapons, etc.," said police spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshen.

The armoured response vehicle shielded officers who used a bullhorn to call people out of a house, ordering each to walk backward to the ARV with their hands in the air.

The scene was cleared and the road reopened around 11:30 a.m., but police have not provided further information about the incident.
