A Manitoba grand chief is calling on federal party leaders to meet with her to develop comprehensive plans to improve the standard of living on northern First Nations.

Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) Grand Chief Sheila North Wilson said federal leaders' current platforms don't address the range of issues facing people living on northern First Nations.

Wilson pointed to housing, food security issues, income levels, resource revenue sharing and the intervention of child welfare workers in the communities – all of which she said are more severe issues on northern First Nations.

Wilson said the northern communities need political parties to work on comprehensive solutions rather than "piecemeal approaches" to address those issues.

Wilson said she'd like the leadership of each party to meet with the MKO to discuss how to make improvements.
