Firefighters extinguished a minor fire in an apartment building in Winnipeg but played a big role in saving a cat.
The fire broke out around 1 p.m. in a single suite of the building on Main Street and Jarvis Avenue.
A man who lived in the suite was treated for smoke inhalation, but he was more concerned about his pet, which was also having breathing problems.
Before going into the ambulance, he tried to comfort the cat, which was lying in the arms of a firefighter.
The long-haired feline was outfitted with a special oxygen mask designed for pets.
After a few puffs of the pure air on the grass outside the building, the cat was good to go.
A second cat also escaped the fire but ran off before firefighters could corral it and check whether it needed any treatment.
There is no word yet on what caused the fire or how much damage was done to the apartment.
