Border Collie-Jack Russell terrier cross named Percy to get surgery after $5K raised

Percy lost his vision after a child reportedly rubbed hair dye in his eyes in February. The nearly eight-month-old Border Collie-Jack Russell terrier cross has been in the care of Manitoba Underdogs Rescue since Feb. 9.

He was originally diagnosed with corneal endothelial dystrophy in mid-March, a condition that thickens the cornea and causes fluid to build up in the eye.

Underdogs started a campaign to raise enough money to pay for Percy's costly surgery. They surpassed the $5,000 donation goal about two weeks ago.

Now, Percy will head to Saskatoon where veterinarians will perform surgery on his left eye in hopes of healing his corneal endothelial dystrophy. Percy's left eye will then be monitored and if the problem persists, veterinarians may still have to do another surgery.

Percy still only has 25 per cent vision in his right eye, but for now, the plan is to abstain from performing surgery in favour of less invasive interventions.

Percy will remain in foster care until his condition improves.
