Reeves petition province to keep Portage Diversion closed
Municipal officials are calling for an emergency meeting with provincial officials to stop the opening of the Portage Diversion.
Municipal officials worried re-opening diversion will send water levels too high on Lake Manitoba
Municipal officials are calling for an emergency meeting with the province to stop the opening of the Portage Diversion.
Several reeves from municipalities around Lake Manitoba met Tuesday afternoon to compose a letter to Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation Steve Ashton.
The reeves want to sit down with Ashton and try to convince him not to re-open the Portage Diversion.
The reeves are concerned water levels on Lake Manitoba are already very high, and they believe the lake can’t handle any additional water from the diversion.
The Portage Diversion was opened earlier this spring but was later closed.
