Restaurateur walks across Winnipeg to support Callie's Backpacks

The owner of a Chicken Chef restaurant in Winnipeg is teaming up with Callie Costello, the 12-year-old girl behind Callie's Backpacks, to help the city's homeless.

Lori Lucas and Costello walked across Winnipeg on Monday to collect donations for Callie's Backpacks, a project that distributes hundreds of backpacks containing basic supplies to the homeless population.

The pair was joined by other supporters as they walked from the Chicken Chef location on Nairn Avenue to Lucas's franchise on Portage Avenue near the Perimeter Highway.

Lucas's Chicken Chef restaurant will serve 450 meals for the homeless on Sept. 1.
