A new collector coin series from the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg honours Canada's firefighters, paramedics, police and military personnel.
The Winnipeg-based mint unveiled the series of coloured coins on Tuesday. Each is 99.999 per cent pure silver and sells for $69.95.
"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to thank our firefighters, paramedics, police and the military for their commitment to preserve and protect the lives of Canadians every single day," said federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau.
"The dedication and professionalism of these brave men and women, who ensure we continue to live in a safe society, are a true inspiration to all Canadians."
The mint also announced it is donating $10,000 to the Red Cross fundraising efforts for Fort McMurray. It is also donating $5 from the sale of every firefighters coin, which is the first coin in the series.
The three other coins in the series will be available on the following dates:
- Paramedics — June 7.
- Police — Aug. 7.
- Military — Sept. 6.
