Person taken to hospital in critical condition after West End apartment fire

A person was taken to hospital in critical condition after a fire broke out in an apartment building on Sargent Avenue in Winnipeg on Tuesday morning.

A person was taken to hospital in critical condition after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Winnipeg's West End on Tuesday morning.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was called to a fire in the Adanac Apartments on Sargent Avenue at Beverley Street around 9 a.m., the City of Winnipeg said in a news release on Tuesday.

Crews saw smoke coming from the building and went inside to help some residents evacuate.

Paramedics took a person in critical condition to hospital.

A section of Sargent Avenue was blocked for part of Tuesday morning while firefighters worked.

Crew fought the fire inside the building, and it was under control within an hour.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
