Some southern Manitoba schools closed Monday after storm wallops province
Number of schools closed due to flooding, unsafe road conditions
A few southern Manitoba school divisions are closed Monday after part of the province was hit with a three-day storm, bringing rain and snow to the area and exacerbating flooding.
Power outages, poor road conditions and other storm impacts prompted the following schools and divisions to cancel all classes for the day:
- Garden Valley School Division.
- Evergreen School Division.
- Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna.
Pine Creek School Division is closing all schools but continuing with remote learning. Students and staff who don't have materials at home will be able to access those items, the division said, with principals helping to organize that.
The school division anticipates challenges with several bus routes in the coming days, and drivers will be in contact with families as needed.
The Prairie Rose School Division is cancelling bus service for all schools in Regions A and B, but classes are still on. St. Laurent School in Region C is closed for the day.
In Beautiful Plains School Division, buses are not running but all schools are open.
In Fort La Bosse School Division, the schools in Virden, Reston and Kola are closed. All other schools are open.
