A semi-trailer was left twisted and crunched after it crashed into a bridge and became wedged for several hours on Wednesday afternoon.

It happened just before 3 p.m. at the CP Rail bridge in Kemnay, a small community just west of Brandon.

Highway 1A, the Trans-Canada Highway route that goes through Brandon, was closed for about 4½ hours as a result and traffic was detoured around the site.

The 59-year-old man who was driving the semi was fined for ignoring the low bridge ahead warning sign.

There were no injuries and police say neither alcohol or fatigue was a factor.

CP police and bridge inspectors were also called to the scene to inspect the damage.

Corrections

  • Highway 1A goes through Brandon, Man. An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that Highway 1A was the bypass around Brandon.
