Winnipeg’s Seven Oaks General Hospital will open a new dialysis unit next week.

The province spent $3 million on the eight-station renal dialysis unit.

Provincial officials said the new stations will help about 48 kidney disease patients each year.

Patient Hank Horner got a chance to tour the new unit with officials on Wednesday and said he was happy about the new unit. Horner said he liked that the area got lots of natural light and would be a comfortable place to get dialysis.

Health Minister Erin Selby was on hand for the announcement, which was made a before World Kidney Day on March 13.

The new unit is expected to open on March 17.
