A man was shot in the leg during a house party Friday morning in Winnipeg's North End.

Police were called to a home on Aberdeen Avenue, between Powers Street and Salter Street, at about 6 a.m. after reports that a man was sent to hospital with injuries.

Two men entered the home and a 22-year-old man was shot in the lower body, police said. He was sent to hospital in unstable condition but he has since improved.

Neighbours told CBC News that several people were in the house when another man came in and a fight broke out. Shortly afterward, shots were fired and a man was hit, they said.

Constance Ahmo lives nearby and was woken up by someone banging on her door asking her to call 911. Ahmo went over to the house and saw a man sitting on the floor.

"There was blood on the floor [and] there was some blood spatter. Everyone was quite hysterical, but I stayed on the phone with 911," she said.

This is not the first time police have been called to that home, neighbours said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crimed Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
