A 21-year-old man died after crashing his snowmobile in a ditch south of Winnipeg.

According to RCMP, the man left a house in Ile Des Chenes around 10:30 p.m. Monday and rode his snowmobile toward his home in the Rural Municipality of Tache.

When he did not arrive, family members went to look for him. He was found Tuesday in the ditch off Provincial Road 207, near the intersection with Prairie Grove Road.

He was pronounced dead on scene, RCMP said.

The man was wearing a helmet but weather conditions and speed may have been contributing factors in the collision, police said.

It was extremely cold with low visibility and heavy blowing snow on Monday evening.

The investigation continues into the cause of the collision.
