Stegall entering Bomber hall of fame, with no wait
Milt Stegall was pretty quick on the football field, and things are moving just as fast for him in retirement.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced the record-setting receiver would go straight into their hall of fame, with no waiting.
Stegall, 39, who announced his retirement from the game on Wednesday, will be inducted at the club's Legacy Dinner this summer. He will also be honoured at the Bombers' 2009 home-opening game against Calgary on July 10.
Stegall was one of the most popular Bombers in team history, both among fans and teammates. He was named a division all-star eight times, a league all-star six times and the CFL's most outstanding player in 2002.
He told CBC News the highlight of his career was a game-winning 100-yard touchdown he scored in Edmonton in 2006.
"You know, just the way the events played out, with everything that had gone on … the way that game ended with the 100-yard touchdown with no time left, well that was truly, like they say, a miracle," he said. "That will be one play that will definitely be etched in my brain."
The native of Cincinnati, who spent his entire career with the Bombers, said his time in Manitoba has been memorable.
"I had my son here, so I'll be here forever," Stegall said. "And they named a street after me, so I'll be here forever."
Stegall said he will remain active in the community and will also appear as a CFL analyst for TSN.
For fans hoping to get one last glimpse and signature, Stegall will be signing autographs on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at the Bomber Store in St. Vital Centre.
