Stephen Harper won't attend opening of Winnipeg's human rights museum
Quebec star Ginette Reno will sing anthem, Governor General David Johnston to attend ceremony
The Prime Minister won't be at the opening ceremonies of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights Friday.
A spokesperson said Stephen Harper's schedule won't permit him to attend.
The museum is however, adding some star and political power to the event.
Quebec legend Ginette Reno will sing the national anthem and Governor General David Johnston will also be there to deliver remarks.
"Ginette Reno is a universally beloved musical icon who has delighted audiences for more than 50 years," said Museum President and CEO Stuart Murray in a news release.
"Francophones have grown up with her music. She's a household name across Québec and a celebrated performer around the world."
Reno is a member of the Order of Canada and has won multiple Juno Awards over her career.
Céline Dion called Reno "one of the world's greatest singers" who inspired her from the age of 10, the release said, adding Reno became the Montreal Canadiens lucky charm during the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs.
The opening ceremonies will be live streamed on our website and broadcast live on CBC TV main network starting at 10:30 am CST.
