Stony Mountain inmate serving sexual assault sentence dies

Stony Mountain Institution is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the death of a 32-year-old inmate at the Manitoba prison's medium-security unit this morning.

Stony Mountain Institution is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the death of a 32-year-old inmate at the Manitoba prison's medium-security unit.

Dwayne Mervin Flett was found unresponsive in his cell on Wednesday morning. Prison staff and emergency personnel tried were unable to resuscitate him, according to Correctional Service Canada.

Flett had been at Stony Mountain since May 31, 2011, for sexual assault and sexual interference.

Police and the provincial coroner's office have been notified of Flett's death, as is the case in all inmate deaths. Correctional Service Canada says it will review the circumstances of the incident.
