A 16-year-old boy who was struck by a roller-coaster car at the Red River Ex in Winnipeg last week remains in critical condition in hospital.

The boy was critically injured after he disembarked from the Crazy Mouse ride on Thursday evening.

Witnesses reported seeing a boy lying on the tracks, injured and covered in blood.

The teen has been in critical condition in hospital since Thursday. His status has not changed as of Monday, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority told CBC News.

Red River Ex officials have said investigators told them the boy had scaled a 1.8-metre wire fence after exiting the ride in an attempt to retrieve a hat.

The Crazy Mouse ride reopened on Friday after two inspections ruled out mechanical failure.
