Teghan's top 5 things to do in and near Winnipeg this weekend (July 1-3)

If you stick around, The Good Will and The Forks have you covered.

An abbreviated column for an abbreviated week — if you're getting one. There are a few great options if you want to head out of the city including dinner on a farm and a ton of local artists at Countryfest in Dauphin.

If you stick around, The Good Will and The Forks have you covered.

WHAT: CANADA DAY — Basic Nature and William Prince at The Forks

When: Friday, July 1 from

Where: The Forks at 1 Forks Market Rd.

Cost: FREE
Basic Nature has shows at The Forks and on Osborne this weekend. (Eric Roberts)

Canada Day brings a stellar lineup at The Forks with Basic Nature, William Prince, Ghost Twin, Micah Visser and even the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

Even FINN, Duotang, VIKINGS and Don Amero will be there.

If you're planning to go, I'd suggest taking transit or walking because The Forks is packed on Canada Day, and the heavy traffic can suck the fun out of it pretty quickly.

WHAT: MUSIC — Can Con Bands as Bands

When: Friday, July 1 at 9 p.m.

Where: The Good Will at 625 Portage Ave.

Cost: $10

Bands as Bands has been so much fun lately, and I'm really looking forward to their latest installment.

Friday night, they've got Surprise Party and Ultra Mega as The Guess Who, Micah Erenberg as Neil Young and Roger Roger as The Band.

These usually sell out and they don't sell tickets in advance, so go early!

WHAT: FOOD — Pizza picnic at Integrity Foods

When: Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Where: Integrity Foods farm north of Riverton, Man., just off Highway 8.

Cost: $17 to $23

Integrity Foods is kicking off another summer of offering fresh pizza on the farm.
Look for this sign north of Riverton to find the pizza farm! (Facebook)

Each weekend (starting Friday), the farm serves up garden-fresh pizzas baked in an outdoor brick oven to people willing to make the trip to Riverton.

They buy meat from local farmers, make the crust with organic spelt and flour, use Bothwell cheese and mix in fresh gardens from their farm.

You eat outside, can check out some farm animals and roam some forest trails while you're there.

This date beats all dates, I think.

WHAT: MUSIC — Quinton Blair and Kevin Roy at Countryfest

When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Where: Dauphin

Cost: $90 for a day pass or $200 for the weekend

There's a ton of local talent performing Countryfest this year.

The Middle Coast, Quinton Blair, Kevin Roy, The Noble Thiefs and Dirty Catfish Brass Band are will all be in Dauphin for the fest, and DJs Hunnicutt as well as Co-op are playing a few nights too.

Be prepared for a lot of partying and big crowds if you go.

WHAT: CANADA DAY — FINN and Mulligrub in Osborne Village

When: Friday and Saturday

Where: Osborne Street  River Avenue to McMillan Avenue

Cost: FREE

Osborne will be shutting down the street to traffic this weekend and opening it up for shows, patios and foot traffic.

Music Trader has Surprise Party and Mulligrub on Friday, with Basic Nature on Saturday, and Black Rabbit has FINN and Adam Hanney on Saturday.
