The death of Travis Sukkau, whose body was found earlier this week in Pembina Valley Provincial Park, is not a criminal matter, RCMP have ruled.

Police have not said how Sukkau, a 19-year-old Winkler man who was reported missing last week, died.

They have also said no further updates on the matter will be provided.

Sukkau was supposed to spend a day in the park on Oct. 24. He was reported missing by family when he did not return as planned, and a police search began.

His vehicle was later found in a wooded area of the park, located about 150 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg, close to the U.S. border.

Sukkau's family and the RCMP said on Monday that a body was found in the park, but the identity of the body was not confirmed until Wednesday.

Sukkau's father, David, then posted a column addressed to Travis on Facebook called "Goodbye for now," along with a photo from Travis's photo album.
