Robert Enright, Susan Thompson, George Bain to get honorary doctorates from University of Winnipeg
Trio will receive honorary doctorates at June convocation, university says
The University of Winnipeg will hand three honorary doctorates to Robert Enright, George Bain and Susan Thompson this summer.
The trio will get their doctorates at the university's spring convocation on June 9 and 10.
Robert Enright is a journalist and was an art critic for CBC for the past 25 years.
Enright also founded Border Crossings magazine and is now an arts professor at the University of Guelph.
Susan Thompson will get her doctorate for her work in public service. Thompson was the first and only woman ever elected to be mayor of Winnipeg.
She held two terms, including through the flood of the century in 1997.
She went on to become the president and CEO of the University of Winnipeg Foundation, raising more than $135 million in a single campaign.
She is currently a consultant for the Winnipeg Art Gallery, helping to secure funding for the new Inuit Art Centre.
Academic leader George Bain will also get an honorary doctorate. The former president of the Manitoba NDP has worked at Oxford and the London School of Business as well as Queen's University.
