Winnipeg couple celebrates 12-12-12 wedding day

There won't be any excuses for forgetting this anniversary.

Teresa Panchuk and Mike Nazar tied the knot in Winnipeg on Wednesday on this century's last repeating date — 12/12/12 — the 12th day of the 12th month of 2012.

And to put that extra emphasis on the day, the couple sealed everything with a kiss at the 12 minutes and 12 seconds after noon.

Mass weddings were planned for Wednesday around the world, as couples considered the sequential number to be a lucky omen.

Since 2001, people around the world have celebrated the so-called triple-days. After Wednesday, that won’t happen again Jan. 1, 2101.

Panchuk, though, doesn't believe there's any significance to the numbers. She just liked the sound of the date.

"It's just something very unique, different and it's going to stick out to everybody, you know? Nobody will forget 12-12-12," she said.

The ceremony took place in front of a small crowd, but more than 12. About 30 family members and a couple friends attended.

However, it was at the Viscount Gort, a hotel which happens to have 12 letters in the name.

Memorable birthday

A Winnipeg couple is also celebrating the date for the birth of their son.

Alan Briol and his wife welcomed their new son, Matias Alan Magsino-Briol, into the world on Wednesday. They were aware of the special date, but expected to miss it by one day.

"We had thought about it because we had set our C-section date for the 13th and we thought, 'oh too bad it's not 12-12-12," Briol said.

"But it's kind of an unexpected, happy circumstance."
