Man charged with 2nd-degree murder in connection to stabbing near hotel Thursday

Winnipeg police have charged a 42-year-old man with second-degree murder and failing to comply with conditions of a release order in connection to a fatal stabbing on Thursday evening.

Winnipeg police have charged a 42-year-old man with second-degree murder in connection to a fatal stabbing on Thursday evening. 

David Justice Knott was arrested near the Airport Motor Inn on Ellice Avenue for allegedly stabbing a 47-year-old man who was later pronounced dead in hospital, police said in an updated release on Sunday. 

The victim has been identified as Jeremy Norton Flett, who lived in Winnipeg and was a member of St. Theresa Point First Nation. 

Family notifications have been made, police said.

Police officers were called to the area around 10 p.m. where they found Flett with life-threatening injuries from being stabbed. He was provided emergency medical attention before being transported to hospital in critical condition. 

The forensic identification unit was at the scene early Friday, taking photographs of a bus shelter in front of the Airport Motor Inn.

Investigators said in a press conference Friday morning they believe the two men knew each other. 

Knott was also charged with two counts of failure to comply with a release order and detained in custody, police said.
