An off-duty Winnipeg police constable has been charged with driving under the influence.

Police were called to a business at 10:45 p.m. on Dec. 8 after reports of a suspected impaired driver who had just left a building on Henderson Highway, between Litz Place and Irving Place, according to a Winnipeg police news release Thursday.

Investigators arrested Const. Oleksii Gerasymchuk, 39, a short time later at a residence, police said.

The two-year member of the Winnipeg Police Service has been charged with operating a vehicle while impaired to any degree by blood alcohol content, drug or a combination of both.

Gerasymchuk has also been charged with having a blood alcohol content equal to or above the legal limit within two hours of last operating a vehicle, according to the release.

Winnipeg police said they have notified the Independent Investigation Unit, which investigates all serious issues involving police in Manitoba.
