Man dies after being hit by Winnipeg Transit bus on Main Street

Police believe a man in his 60s who was struck by a Winnipeg transit bus on Main Street on Thursday and later died had walked into oncoming traffic before he was hit.

A pedestrian taken to hospital in critical condition after being hit by a Winnipeg Transit bus on Main Street Thursday evening has died, Winnipeg police say. 

Winnipeg police were notified about the collision, on Main between Logan and Higgins avenues, just after 5:30 p.m. Thursday, police previously told CBC.

Investigators believe the man had crossed the street into oncoming traffic before he was hit by the bus, which was travelling northbound on Main Street, a Friday news release from the Winnipeg Police Service said.

The pedestrian, a man in his 60s, was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries, the release said.

Police told CBC on Thursday evening that the man had not crossed the street at a designated intersection.

None of the passengers on the bus were injured in the collision, police said.

The police service's traffic decision continues to investigate the collision, but it is "not considered criminal in nature," police say.
