Woman hit with hatchet while being sexually assaulted at Thompson, Man., encampment

A man has been arrested after a woman says she was sexually assaulted while being hit with a hatchet at a Thompson encampment.

A man has been arrested after a woman says she was sexually assaulted while being hit with a hatchet at a Thompson encampment. 

RCMP responded to an intimate partner violence report in the northern Manitoba city on Sunday. 

Officers went to Wellbriety Centre, an overnight shelter, where they found a woman visibly injured, police said in a news release Thursday. 

The woman, 42, told RCMP her boyfriend hit her with a hatchet multiple times while he sexually assaulted her in an encampment tent.

RCMP have arrested a 31-year-old man from Thompson who remains in custody, while police continue to investigate.
