2 executives abruptly leave Manitoba's largest hospital

Two top executives have abruptly left Winnipeg's Health Sciences Centre, the largest hospital in Manitoba. 

Health Sciences Centre's chief operating officer Dana Erickson and chief human resources officer Deborah Hannah are no longer employed by the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority "effective immediately," the WRHA announced Tuesday. 

Erickson has worked for the WRHA for 25 years, serving in financial, operational and clinical services roles. He also served as regional lead for diagnostic imaging, child health, women's health and clinical engineering.

"He has had an impact on the lives of patients and their families and has led a large and diverse team of health care providers at the province's largest hospital," WRHA president and CEO Milton Sussman said a memo to staff.

In an email to CBC News, a WRHA spokesperson said Erickson's departure was a "personnel matter" and the authority is "grateful for his service."

Hannah worked at the hospital for two years. While the city's regional health authority seeks a replacement for Hannah, Mike Bereziak will assume the role as acting chief human resources officer.

The health authority says it will begin a national search to replace Erickson at HSC, and in the meantime HSC's chief medical officer, Dr. Perry Gray, will step in as acting chief operating officer of the hospital.
