Coun. Russ Wyatt: From first report of alleged sexual assault to stayed charge
Transcona councillor was accused in 2018 of assaulting woman known to him; Crown stayed charge in June 2019
Crown prosecutors have dropped a sexual assault charged against former Winnipeg city councillor Russ Wyatt, who represented Transcona from 2002 to 2018.
Provincial court documents indicate the Crown stayed the charge on June 5, 2019.
Wyatt was first arrested July 10, 2018, in connection with what police called a "serious sexual assault."
The alleged incident was first reported Jan. 14, 2018.
In the following months the councillor of 16 years made headlines several times, including for a months-long absence from city hall after entering addictions treatment in January.
Wyatt has always maintained his innocence.
