Alma CEGEP on alert after anti-women Facebook post
21-year-old student charged with uttering threats against women
A CEGEP in Alma has beefed up security after one of its students was charged with allegedly uttering threats against women.
Alex Pagé was charged on Thursday in connection with a post on Facebook in which police allege he said he wanted to commit a second Polytechnique massacre.
The post is said to include positive comments about the actions of Marc Lépine, who killed 14 women in 1989.
Pagé, 21, was also charged with producing juvenile pornography.
Administrators at the Collège d'Alma, where Pagé was studying to become a police officer, contacted police after teachers relayed the concerns of students who saw the alleged Facebook post.
"In order to reassure students and staff, we took measures to increase security inside the college, and we asked for reinforcements outside the college," said the CEGEP's communications officer, Frédéric Tremblay.
There are extra security guards on campus, and provincial police have increased their patrols in the area, Tremblay said.
Pagé was granted bail and is currently living with his parents.
The CEGEP has yet to decide whether to suspend Pagé, though for the moment it is not allowing him to attend class.
