Montreal's Ecomuseum Zoo has euthanized its two remaining black bears because of age-related health issues.

Marge was 22 years old, and her mother Susie was 28.

The Ecomuseum's director of operations, Caroline Bourque, said the bears were more than twice the age of the average life expectancy of a black bear in the wild.

In October, the zoo lost its other black bear, Homer — Marge's sister.

Bourque said because the zoo cares for rescue animals, which cannot be released into the wild, she cannot predict when the zoo might take in another bear.
