The Bonaventure Expressway will be partially closed this weekend as work continues on its demolition.

Bonaventure West will be closed between 10:00 p.m. Friday and 5:00 p.m. Monday. Following that, Bonaventure will be completely closed for the coming months.

During that time, westbound traffic will be able to take Duke Street. Eastbound traffic will be able to take Nazareth Street.

The expressway is being destroyed to make way for an urban renewal project that will add a significant amount of greenspace to the area.

CBC Montreal traffic report Jennifer Allen warns drivers that finding detours might be tricky.

"There is roadwork everywhere," Allen said. "Use the Jacques Cartier ... to cross to the south shore. Or use Robert Bourassa as your entry point to the Bonaventure from downtown. Or use public transit."

But with the amount of roadwork ongoing downtown, Allen added that drivers will have to patient.

The $140-million Bonaventure project is due to be completed by September 2017.
