6-year-old boy on bike in critical condition after colliding with truck
Boy was cycling in Southwest borough when truck coming out of alleyway struck him
A six-year-old boy is in critical condition after colliding with a truck in the Southwest borough Sunday.
Montreal police said a 44-year-old man was driving out of an alley and was about to head north on de Biencourt Street, near Eadie Street, in the Côte-Saint-Paul neighbourhood, where a boy was riding his bike.
Police received a call at around 11:40 a.m., saying the boy had collided with the truck. The child may not have been wearing a helmet, police added.
"The young boy has been transported to the hospital, where he is in a critical state. We do fear for the young boy's life," said police spokesman Emmanuel Couture.
The driver, who was in shock, was also taken to hospital, Couture said.
Police said alcohol and speed were not a factor in the incident.
"It seems the driver didn't see the kid that was on the bike," said Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant.
Investigators are at the scene to determine the cause of the collision.
