French-language superhospital CHUM delayed by months

The opening of the Centre hospitalier de l'Universite de Montréal (CHUM) superhospital will be delayed by half a year, Radio-Canada has learned.

A formal announcement about the delay is expected to be made later today.

The existing hospitals in the French-language teaching hospital network – Notre-Dame, Saint-Luc and Hôtel Dieu – will remain open five to seven months longer than scheduled to accommodate patients.

The CHUM, which is being built by a public-private partnership, was initially slated to be handed over to the Quebec government on April 22. That date will now be pushed to the fall.

The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) superhospital opened in April 2015, on schedule.
