The first known Quebecer has been infected with the new coronavirus variant after coming into contact with a family member who had recently returned from the United Kingdom.

A statement from Quebec's Health Ministry says the family member had close contacts with three members of their immediate family after returning home on Dec. 11, more than a week before flights from the UK had been halted.

They tested positive on Dec. 13, and all three family members have since tested positive as well.
