CBC Montreal Do Crew helps out Chez Doris
Montrealers rally for some much-needed spring cleaning
The Do Crew answered a call for action from Chez Doris last Thursday.
The charitable organization is the only women's day shelter serving the Montreal community. Open seven days a week,the house provides meals, respite, clothing, socio-recreational activities as well as practical assistance in a secure and accepting environment.
When they asked for help with doing some spring cleaning, the CBC Montreal Do Crew was there.
Our main task was to help bring the shine back to the Chez Doris community kitchen. When we arrived on site, we discovered just how much this non-profit shelter provides to the women it serves. It offers its clients free breakfast and lunch, gives them a safe place to take a shower, take a nap or place a phone call.
As it's tax time, volunteers have helped more than 100 women last month alone with their taxes, as well as assisting them with their financial social aid and helping them balance their monthly budget all year round. Chez Doris really has an impressive selection of programs to support a woman's mind, body and spirit.
During our time at Chez Doris, the Do Crew managed to organize the pantry, spruce up the clothing donation room and create more than 150 shower kits for the clients that use their facilities — all that, and we only skimmed the surface of the reinforcement they need.
