Two fishers were found dead Friday afternoon by a search party in the Lanaudière region, after it was reported that the men hadn't returned from their fishing trip, according to Quebec provincial police.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) was alerted Friday morning about the men who had gone fishing in the Kempt Lake area, said spokesperson Camille Savoie.

The SQ conducted a search with locals and the help of a nautical patrol, an SQ helicopter and Manawan police.

The two men were found unconscious near their boat around 4:30 p.m.

Manawan police pulled them out of the water and transported them to a dispensary where they were declared dead.

A spokesperson says unfavourable weather conditions the night before may have been at play in the accident.
