Funding for Quebec flood victims set to expire
Funding from the Quebec government to help residents forced out of their homes by flooding in the Richelieu Valley is about to expire.
Seven months after the Richelieu River burst its banks, more than 200 people remain homeless.
With nowhere else to go, many have been living in hotels while they rebuild or repair their homes.
The provincial government has been helping to cover the costs, but for many residents that funding is about to run out.
Suzanne Griffiths has been living in a cramped motel room for the past five months while she rebuilds her home in Sainte-Anne-de-Sabrevois, which won't be ready until January.
Her emergency funding, however, will expire at the end of November.
Jean-Guy Gévry is still working to decontaminate his home and doesn't expect to be able to move back for at least another month, but his hotel room is only covered until Sunday.
The group SOS Richelieu is collecting donations to help people when the provincial funding is cut off.
The Quebec government has spent about $36-million to help flood victims, and has said it is willing to meet with meet with them to discuss their needs.
