Future of expressway under microscope

The city of Montreal has begun its study on the future of the Bonaventure Expressway.

One option under consideration is the demolition of the expressway altogether. It could be replaced by an urban boulevard.

The area would likely have to be decontaminated of its toxic oils.

The expressway was constructed for the 1967 Man and His World Expo 67, at a time when public transit wasn't a priority, city officials say.

They say public transit, residential and commercial real estate and tourism should be among the factors guiding decision-makers in how to rejuvenate the area.
