A Quebec man is dead after attempting to hang-glide while tethered to his truck on a small island northeast of Montreal.

The 30-year-old man was on Île-Ste-Thérèse Sunday afternoon, attempting to manoeuvre a hang-glider anchored to his truck.

Witnesses told emergency workers the man appeared to be about 30 metres up in the air when the aircraft nose-dived and "he just fell down on himself," said Luc Robillard, Montreal fire operations chief.

Montreal firefighters called to the scene performed CPR, but the man was later declared dead.

The Varennes police department is investigating the incident.
