A savage beating that left a 23-year-old Longueuil woman dead has Longueuil police combing the city looking for suspects.

The woman, whose identity has not been released by police, was found near a bike path that cuts through Paul Pratt Park in Old Longueuil Tuesday night. She later died in hospital.

A witness found the victim near the path between Normandie Street and Chambly Road and called 911 at around 10 p.m. ET.

Three witnesses were questioned, but they were not considered suspects.

The woman, who was not carrying identification, was later identified after her family came forward.

This is the first homicide in Longueuil police territory in 2014.

Const. Mélanie Mercille said anyone with any information about the events that took place on Tuesday night should go to a police station or call 911.
