Montreal hopes to host cycling congress for 375th anniversary
City set to present on Montreal's winter bike paths, snow removal policy at conference
Montreal hopes to bring winter cycling to the city in a new way for 2017 — it's hoping to host the Winter Cycling Congress next year as part of Montreal's 375th anniversary celebrations.
A city official will be present this week in Minneapolis at the Winter Cycling Congress, where the announcement revealing the next host city will be made.
"In terms of bike culture, we're the envy of North America, that's for sure," said city councillor Marc-André Gadoury, who will make a presentation at the conference on Montreal's new snow removal policy and implementation of four-season bike paths.
Gadoury says the long-term goal is to not close any bike paths in Montreal during the winter months.
"We have implemented all the new bike paths, all the new bike links are four-season," Gadoury said, adding that he expects to know which city will be next to host the annual conference by the end of the week.
