Montreal police arrested a man early Wednesday morning in connection with a homicide in the Côte-des-Neiges area. It was the second homicide in the city this year.

A janitor at a building near Plamondon and Victoria avenues found the body of a 44-year-old man on the floor of his apartment Tuesday morning, police said.

"[The suspect is] a 34-year-old man who should appear in court facing a murder charge," said police Const. Olivier Lapointe.

He said the victim appeared to have been beaten, but investigators are not sure if a weapon was used.

He said they were searching the suspect's car Wednesday morning. Police have not released his name or the name of the victim.

The shooting death of Jason Peagram, 22, on Jan. 12 was the first homicide of the year.

Peagram was shot outside his apartment building in Westmount. He was a well-liked student at Concordia University. Police have made no arrest in the case.
