Montreal police seize delivery truck with possible links to fatal hit and run
Driver identified and will be interviewed later today
Montreal police have seized a delivery truck that they believe was involved in a fatal hit and run in Montreal's east end on Tuesday.
The truck's driver has also been identified and will be interviewed by police today.
"The truck has sent [for forensic analysis] in order to know it's one hundred percent sure that it's the truck that hit the pedestrian," said Montreal police spokesman Manuel Couture.
The delivery truck belongs to FedEx, according to the company.
James Anderson, a spokesman for FedEx Express Canada, told CBC that a truck from the FedEx ground fleet is being detained in relation with the fatal hit and run yesterday.
Anderson said he does not know when it was detained nor who the driver is. He added that FedEx is offering its deepest sympathies to the victim's family.
A 76-year-old man was hit by what witnesses said was a delivery truck Tuesday around 3:25 p.m. near the corner of Honoré-Beaugrand and Tellier streets.
The truck did not stop and the victim died of his injuries at the scene, despite efforts by paramedics to save him.
On Tuesday, another FedEx truck was detained by police but it was later released.
Investigators said it was unclear if the driver knew he or she had hit someone.
