The United States Olympic Committee is pouring hot water on suggestions Lake Placid could be part of Quebec City's possible bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Patrick Sandusky, a spokesman for the USOC, said the organization's "sole focus" is on bringing the 2024 Olympic Games to Los Angeles.

"If we were to be approached by our friends from Canada, and to date we have not been, we would politely turn them down as our focus is 100 per cent on bidding to bring the Summer Games back to the USA," Sandusky said in a statement Tuesday.

The comment comes after the mayor of the upstate New York village, Craig Randall, had expressed interest in partnering with Quebec City on a proposal.

Lake Placid hosted the Winter Games in 1932 and 1980.

In addition to Lake Placid, Quebec City Mayor Régis Labeaume has also floated the idea of collaborating with Vancouver and Calgary on a bid.

Several cities in North America and Europe are believed to be considering bidding on the 2026 Games, which will be awarded by the IOC in 2019.
