Quebec City Mayor Régis Labeaume will be getting a $75 ticket – plus $25 in fees –in the mail later this month for allegedly insulting a police officer at a recent university football game.

The verbal exchange happened at the football game in September, according to the union representing Quebec City's police force, Le Soleil reported Friday.

Labeaume apparently was angered after a policeman did not return his greeting, and insulted the uniformed officer before leaving the stadium.

The mayor was at the University of Laval watching the school's Rouge et Or football team.

The officer allegedly filed a complaint but senior managers within the police force failed to follow up, according to the newspaper report.

The officer then sent the ticket to municipal court.

Labeaume's press secretary is not commenting on the situation until a ticket is delivered in the mail.

If the mayor chooses to contest the fine, he will have to do so in court.
