Shawn Soucy, 16, accidentally left a pocket knife in his backpack after morning chores on his family's farm in St. Remi, Que.
What was a slip of the mind resulted in Soucy's expulsion in the middle of his final year at Heritage Regional High School on Montreal's South Shore.

Most people online sympathized with Soucy's predicament and thought the Riverside School Board went too far.
Some said the fuss over the pocket knife was much ado about nothing.
Even Soucy's mother weighed in on the debate.
But for one woman, the rules are the rules.
