Ste-Julie crash between SUV and snowplow a case of drowsy driving
19-year-old driver fell asleep at the wheel, Beloeil police say
A 19-year-old man from St-Amable, Que., walked away from a crash that could have easily killed him early Wednesday morning.
Cpt. Harry Wadup of Beloeil police said the young man appears to have been asleep at the wheel when the SUV he was driving crashed into a snowplow on a rural road in Ste-Julie.
"It was quite spectacular when we see the pictures," Wadup said. The SUV's front-end was smashed like a tin can and the vehicle was totalled, but the driver was not seriously injured.
The incident happened near 555 Chemin-du-Fer-à-Cheval around 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Wadup said the snowplow saw the SUV coming and tried unsuccessfully to pull over to the right to avoid a collision.
"It's just luck of the situation because more often than not an accident of this sort would have been a fatal accident," he said.
