Telecommunications failures blamed for two system-wide Metro outages in two days
Transportation authority working to determine if problems are linked
Two network-wide service interruptions on Montreal's Metro system in the last two days are being attributed to the failure of telecommunications equipment, the city's public transit authority (STM) reported Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the entire Metro system was shut down for 23 minutes due to a problem with its phone network.
Among other concerns, the problem meant the Metro's control centre could not receive calls from the emergency telephones located on Metro station platforms.
On Wednesday, service across the Metro system was out for 19 minutes because the control centre lost contact with the portable radios carried by many of its employees.
STM spokeswoman Amélie Régis said it's too early to know if the two outages are connected.
"We'll be investigating the exact cause in the coming days," she said.
