Turcot Interchange construction will be closely monitored, Robert Poëti says

Transport Minister Robert Poëti says steps have been taken to ensure the construction of the new Turcot Interchange will be corruption-free.

Poëti told CBC's Daybreak on Friday that officials with Quebec's anti-corruption unit, UPAC, will be at the construction site. 

"They were with us when we started the process," he said, explaining that UPAC oversaw the bidding process.

"We are there for the ones who think they could, again, steal money from Quebecers. And we won't accept that."

The province announced Thursday it had awarded the contract for the new Turcot Interchange to KPH Turcot, a consortium led by two U.S.-based construction firms, Kiewit and Parsons.

​The cost is estimated at $3.7 billion, the same amount estimated when the former Parti Québécois started the bidding.

​Poëti said work is expected to begin in February 2015 and be completed by 2020.
